How to Sign Up for Google Business: A Step-by-Step Guide for Real Estate Agents & Mortgage Professionals
Want more clients to find your real estate business online? Creating a Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business) is one of the best ways to show up on Google Search and Maps when buyers or sellers are searching for agents near them.
In this beginner-friendly tutorial, we’ll walk you through every step of signing up for Google Business, with images and plain-language instructions tailored just for real estate professionals.
✉️ Step 1: Go to the Google Business Site
Visit: https://www.google.com/business
Click the blue “Get Started” button.
🏠 Step 2: Enter Your Business Name
Type the name of your real estate business (or your own name if you operate independently).
Example: “Sarah James Realty” or “John Smith, Realtor – Keller Williams”
Click Next to continue.
🏢 Step 3: Choose Business Category
Type “Real Estate Agent” and select it from the dropdown. There are a few possible relative category options – Real Estate Agent, Real Estate Agency, Mortgage Broker or Mortgage Lender – Choose what is most appropriate for you.
This ensures Google categorizes your business correctly for local search results.
📍 Step 4: Add Your Business Address
If you meet clients at a physical office, enter your address. If you work from home or don’t meet clients at your address, you can skip this and list service areas instead.
🛍️ Step 5: Choose Service Areas
You can list all the cities or zip codes you work in. This helps you appear in local searches for each area.
Example: “Annapolis, Edgewater, Severna Park, MD”
☎️ Step 6: Add Contact Info
Enter your phone number and website URL.
Tip: Use your LiveBuyers website! You can always update this information later on if needed.
📅 Step 7: Finish and Verify
Google will ask how you want to verify your business—usually by postcard. Enter the mailing address, and Google will send you a code in a few days.
Once the postcard arrives, log back into your Google Business Profile and enter the code.
